Si cotidianamente tuviésemos que diagnosticar la relación entre velocidad y tiempo, indudablemente podríamos describirla como una aceleración sostenida, dicho de otro modo, la naturaleza de nuestra vida estimulada más allá de todo balance razonable.
Sentados en un andén donde observamos nerviosos al tren pasar aumentando el ritmo de su marcha en cada centímetro, alejándose ruidosamente en su precipitada búsqueda suicida de descarrilamiento, levantamos la vista, miramos al cielo, cerramos los ojos y nos lanzamos hacia atrás, a bucear. En este retorno inconsciente al vientre sombrío donde todo comenzó, nos vemos desesperados en aquel cuarto de máquinas intentando controlar este mecanismo, sin embargo, es un lugar inmune a toda voluntad, un paisaje sonoro giratorio y automático.
Engranaje es el resultado de una serie de ejercicios exploratorios donde se experimenta drásticamente el descenso de la velocidad, una navegación ruidosa, misteriosa y ciega, una f(r)icción auditiva indispensable y placentera.
If we had to diagnose the relationship between time and speed on a daily basis, we could undoubtedly describe it as a sustained acceleration, in other words, the nature of our life stimulated beyond all reasonable balance.
Sitting on a platform where we nervously watch the train passing by, increasing the pace of its march on each centimeter, moving away noisily on its suicidal search for derailment, we look up, to the sky, we close our eyes and dive back. On this unconscious return to the dark womb where it all began, we find ourselves desperate in that engine room trying to control that mechanism, however, it is a place immune to all will, a rotating and automatic soundscape.
Engranaje (Gear) is the result of a series of exploratory exercises where the decrease speed is drastically experienced, a noisy, mysterious and blind navigation, an indispensable and pleasurable audio f(r)iction.
Engranaje fue estrenado el 8 de enero de 2025 a la medianoche, como parte de la convocatoria del festival radiofónico transmitido por Radio Monteaudio, la plataforma radiofónica del Festival Internacional de Arte Sonoro Monteaudio y del taller experimental de arte sonoro del Instituto de música de la Facultad de Artes de la Universidad de la República, Montevideo, Uruguay.
Engranaje was premiered at midnight on January 8, 2025, as part of the open call for the radio festival broadcast by Radio Monteaudio, the radio platform of the Monteaudio International Sound Art Festival and the experimental sound art workshop of the Music Institute of the Faculty of Arts of the University of the Republic, Montevideo, Uruguay.
